Hi there! I’m Tiahnah, a bilingual (English & Afrikaans) English tutor with a passion for helping students gain confidence and fluency. Since 2019, I’ve been teaching English to students internationally, with a particular focus on the Far East, focusing on interactive and engaging learning experiences.

With years of experience in online tutoring, I have worked with over 50 private clients, many of whom have been with me since 2020. At any given time, I support a group of around 25 enrolled students, prioritizing long-term learning relationships and personalized instruction. In addition to teaching, I have extensive experience training and mentoring other tutors, helping them refine their skills and develop effective teaching strategies.

My teaching approach is dynamic and adaptable, drawing from a variety of high-quality resources such as National Geographic Reading Explorers and Oxford Read and Discover. I also specialize in video-based learning, a method I helped develop while working with an innovative language program. In these courses, students watch engaging content based on their age and English proficiency, like The Octonauts and Crash Course Kids. We use class time to discuss the themes, vocabulary, and concepts in a way that strengthens comprehension and conversational skills. I believe in making language learning feel natural and enjoyable, combining structured lessons with curiosity-driven discussions.

Beyond online education, I have experience working with non-native English speakers in outdoor learning environments. During my time at Living Lands (2016–2019), I helped organize and facilitate outdoor educational fun days for students from different socio-economic backgrounds. These events brought together diverse school groups for hiking, river exploration, and environmental education activities, ensuring that language barriers didn’t hinder participation.

Academically, I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development from the internationally recognized Sustainability Institute in Lynedoch, South Africa. This alternative learning environment emphasized interdisciplinary, real-world applications of sustainability and education, allowing me to develop a deeper understanding of human engagement, project facilitation, and innovative teaching approaches.

Outside of teaching, I have a deep love for interior decorating, fashion, and personal style consulting, and I’m currently working on a new service offering in this space. Whether in education or creativity, my approach is always about making learning enjoyable, engaging, and deeply personal.
